The Jackson Symphony is holding several Open Rehearsal student matinees this season that are free to the public. I love classical music and introduced my children to it early in life. It was not until they began participating in orchestra and band that they really began to appreciate that style of music. Now, they are hooked. All of the rehearsals should be great learning experiences. I am especially looking forward to the April rehearsal with a little 70s and 80s music. I am a Journey (Steve Perry) kind of girl.
There are several opportunities for you to enjoy a morning with your children listening to classical music presented by the Jackson Symphony. Students will learn about the orchestra, the instruments and how everything comes together for a magnificent performance.
Rehearsal: The Symphony’s own Wes Lobo will be performing the virtuosic Trombone Concerto by Bourgeois. Music selections from Bach’s “Jesu, Joy”, Grieg’s “Morning Mood” and other familiar classics.
Venue: Carl Perkins Civic Center, 400 South Highland Avenue, Jackson, 38301
Suggested age: Elementary, middle school and high school
Date: Friday, February 16, 2018
