Artistic talent abounds in West Tennessee. There is no better place to find it than in the Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra (JSYO), which begins its 17th season this fall under the direction of James Weil. If your child plays the harp, percussion, piano, strings or winds instrument, they may want to audition to become a part of this ongoing legacy. There is a special call for bassoon, French horn, percussion, string bass and viola positions. Serious and skilled instrumentalists are invited to audition. Although many of the students are high school level, students will be judged on their talent and skill. All interested students must complete the online audition form and submit it by Thursday, August 10, with a $10 audition fee. Students may do a walk-in audition, but a time slot is not guaranteed.
Some notes from the JSYO:
- Rehearsals are held at Union University on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
- The orchestra will present three concerts and two side-by-side performances with The Jackson Symphony during the season.
