Beekeeper Short Course Offered in Jackson

The Jackson Area Beekeepers Association, Inc. (JABA) is offering its annual Beekeeper Short Course on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the UT Extension Auditorium in Jackson. This is a great way to learn more about beekeeping, especially if you have a child who has an interest in bees. The short course can be taken just for fun and information purposes as well as used as part of a homeschool study about bees. This would be an engaging way to bring the study to life.

“The beginning beekeeping (traditionally called a “short course”) is intended to be a high level overview of beekeeping. it will introduce fundamental topics like honey bee biology, beekeeping equipment, and hive and colony management over one year,” said JABA President Andrew Martin. “The course is intended to provide an opportunity for interested people to ask questions and determine if beekeeping is a good fit for them.”

Registration is $15 for an individual and $20 for a family, and will be done on the day of class starting at 8:30 a.m., so there is no need to pre-register. The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a pizza lunch will be provided. The registration fee also includes a one year member in JABA.
