August signifies back to school and a return to a regular routine. Despite that, there are still a lot of activities to keep your kids and teens busy throughout the school year inside and outside of school without having to drive outside of the county. Check out the following comprehensive list.

AUGUST EVENTS
August 1 – Community Prayer Walk will be held at the Whiteville Community Center { 151 East Main Street, Whiteville, 38075 } at 8 a.m.
August 2 – Bolivar Middle School Prayer Walk will be held at 5 p.m. Local pastors and community members are invited to attend.
Through August 19 – Submit Hardeman County Student Art Contest pieces to the Town of Whiteville { 144 East main Street, Whiteville, 38075 } or the student’s school. Contest is open to public, private, and homeschool kindergarten through high school students. First and second place winners will receive art supplies and a $25 gift card.
August 15 – The Clothes Closet at Saulsbury Baptist Church { 123 Church Street, Saulsbury, 38067 } for a Back to School Grab a Bag sale. You can grab a bag, fill it, and shop for less.
August 22 – Whiteville Main Street Festival will be held in downtown Whiteville from 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
August 28-30 – Dear Evan Hansen will be presented by the Hardeman County Arts Council at Bolivar Central High School. Tickets are $15.
Through August 30 – The TNSTRONG Ambassador Program empowers Tennessee teens to become leaders by educating their peers about the dangers of tobacco and nicotine while promoting healthier, tobacco-free lifestyles. The program is for students ages students, ages 13 – 19.
BIBLE STUDY
Awana & Youth Group will be held for students in pre-k through twelfth grade at Porters Creek Baptist Church { 5120 Peavine Road, Middleton, 38052 } on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call (731) 609-9011 for more information. Register to attend.
LUEZ THEATER
August 2 – Movie Night at the Luez Theater is being hosted by Union Spring Missionary Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Admission is $9 and there will be free popcorn and Coke.
August 7-8 – The Luez Theater { 219 North Main Street, Bolivar, 38008 } has weekend movie features. Spider-Man: Brand New Day (PG-13) will show Friday (8/7) at 7 p.m., and Saturday (8/8) at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

If you have a Bolivar Central High School student going away to college and staying in a campus dorm, Ayer Foundation Scholarship counselor may have a few more care baskets for you to have.

August 4 – Hornsby Elementary School { 105 Church Street, Hornsby, 38044 } is holding Meet the Teacher from 4 p.m. to 5:25 p.m. A PTO meeting will follow at 5:30 p.m.
SPORTS
August 1 – Bolivar Youth Athletics Pee Wee Cheer Squad sign ups will be held at the Bolivar Lions Club from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The cost id $90.

August 3-14 – The City of Bolivar { 211 North Washington Street, Bolivar, 38008 } will have Softball Fall Ball League Sign Up for children ages four through 12). Register Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Through 8/28 – City of Bolivar Parks and Recreation Youth Co-Ed Soccer league registration opens at the Bolivar Municipal Center { 211 North Washington Street, Bolivar, 38008 } from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call (731) 658-7529 for more information.
Through August 7 – Hatchie River Area Youth Soccer (HRAYS) fall 2026 season registration is open. Registration is open to all players (potty trained through high school) from all areas.
August 7 – HRAYS Fun Day will be held at the Middleton soccer fields at 7 p.m. Registration and HRAYS meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a rescheduled date.
August 10 – BYA Flag Football sign ups will be held at the BYA building at the baseball field from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
August 14 – Meet the Tigers will be held at the Bolivar Central High School football stadium at 6 p.m. BYA Flag Football sign ups will also happen.
August 15 – Middleton High School Volleyball team fundraiser Car Wash & Bake Sale Fundraiser will be held at the Doughy Fresh parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
August 17 – BYA Flag Football sign ups will be held at the BYA building at the baseball field from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
VOLUNTEER/COMMUNITY SERVICE
There are several places throughout Hardeman County for teens to volunteer. Some include the public libraries, Hardeman Adoptable Animals, City of Bolivar Community Garden, the Hardeman County Arts Center, and more. Reach out and find somewhere to volunteer.

MUSEUMS AND PARKS
There are several parks in the county for children and teens to get outdoors and enjoy play equipment, sports, walking trails, etc. Hardeman County also has some museum with rich county history.
