This is your Homeschool Roster West Tennessee weekly homeschool news for August 1 through August 4, 2023, to keep you up to date on what is happening in the West Tennessee area.
WHAT’S NEW? – West Tennessee

The “Homeschool Rockin’ Sock Hop” will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in Bolivar, so save the date! Tickets are now on sale, and you can purchase them online. All the cool cats will be there, so don’t be a party pooper. The sock hop is for middle school and high school homeschoolers, ages 13 – high school senior.

Hip Hip Hooray! Homeschool Roster field trip season has begun! Tell your homeschool friends! The 2023/2024 field trip season is going to be as always exciting, fun, and educational. You may see some field trips that already have open registration. The calendar is being filled with events for the fall 2023 semester.
August Homeschool Information Sessions
“How to Balance It All” presented by Lani Carey, a veteran homeschool mom who began homeschooling her oldest daughter in 1991, and “Homeschooling High School Year By Year“ presented by Homeschool Roster are two free homeschool information sessions that will be hosted by Homeschool Roster in August. Although the events are free, registration is required and will open on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
Back to Homeschool Splash!
Homeschool Roster is holding two more Back-to-Homeschool Splash field trips at Thornton’s Pool. Registration is open now, so be sure to check out the Homeschool Roster event website.
Brooks Museum Announces 2023/2024 Homeschool Days
Brooks Museum Homeschool Days return with its themed focused days that will introduce children to art.

Stay cool this summer and take in a free movie!
This is the last week for the Empire 8 Theatre Free Summer Movie Series. Don’t miss the opportunity to see a double-feature and enjoy a day at the movies!
Do you or your child need CPR certification?
CPR and AED (training and certification), and First Aid and Narcan (training) will be offered in Jackson. The class is taught by a fireman who is a certified emergency medical responder. Being First Aid/CPR/AED certified can be helpful for personal education and/or recertification as well as job proficiency – lifeguard (use certification towards requirements), baby sitter, basic job requirement (ex: OSHA), badges (ex: Trail Life, Boy Scouts, Heritage Girls, etc.). Classes will be held on August 18 and September 16. Register now!

Homeschool Consignment Sale Moves to Online Sales
The Homeschool Consignment Sale has moved to online sales. If you are still looking for curriculum for the new school year or just like good deals on books, check out what is for sale now, and shop from local West Tennessee homeschoolers. New items will be added daily until everything is listed. In-person delivery is available in the Jackson and Memphis areas, as well as shipping. Got books to sell? New consignor registration opens December 2023.

WHAT’S NEW? – All Tennessee
Tennessee Promise application is now open! Students can apply for the last dollar scholarship and possibly have their college paid for as they pursue an associate’s degree at a college or certification at a trade school. If you have a senior, don’t miss this opportunity. The application takes about five minutes to complete.
Register for Homeschool
It is time to register for homeschool. Most umbrella schools are now accepting registration and independent homeschool registration for the 2023/2024 school year opened on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Read Homeschool 101 article to learn how to get started.
Register for the ACT
The next ACT date is Saturday, September 9, 2023. Register early by Friday, August 4, 2023, to save before the price increases.
