Introducing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) concepts into your school will be easier this year with the Homeschool Computer Courses offered by David Hirschfeld of Memphis Bits, Bytes & Bots. Students will learn about computers and robotics by studying computer applications, coding, stop motion movie making, video game creation and more. There will be two levels of courses, one which will be for upper elementary/middle school and the second for high school students.

David and his wife, Vesna, have worked with children and teenagers in some form of education for a number of years. Over the past 10 years, David has taught STEM courses to students in kindergarten through college. Last year, he offered a STEM-based class to homeschoolers, which was well received.

“My technology classes engage students in project-based activities that teach technology skills, problem solving, critical thinking and self-esteem,” said David Hirschfeld, who also owns the Memphis Bits, Bytes & Bots.

David has put together homeschool classes that will appeal to any child who has an interest in STEM activities and for those who are curious and want to learn more. The two levels of classes are each 90 minutes long and will continue over a 30-week period. All Classes begin on Tuesday, September 6, at Heartsong Church in Cordova.

Course descriptions from David Hirschfeld

This class is for homeschool students 10-13 years of age and is offered 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“STEM encompasses a vast array of subjects that fall into each of those terms. Colleges and universities look for students who have experience and interest in STEM subjects,” said Hirschfeld. “Occupations in STEM-related careers are some of the fastest growing and best paid of the 21st century, and they often have the greatest potential for job growth.”
