Presenting 2026 Homeschool Graduate Carson Floyd

Carson Floyd is a HomeLife Academy student and has been homeschooled for 13 years. He describes his homeschool years as challenging but fun and also enlightening.
He shared what he enjoyed about homeschool, the experiences and memories, some tips, his future plans, and favorite places to visit in West Tennessee.
CHALLENGES: I did not really experience any challenges.
BENEFITS: I really enjoyed the flexibility and spending more time with my parents and family. I feel my parent/child connection is a lot stronger. I was around my mom more so I had someone who I could talk to through my thoughts and ideas.
I had more free time to pursue my interests because of the flexible schedule. I participated in a small homeschool group where we would go on field trips and hiking trips.
Some of my accomplishments over the years include in my fourth-grade year, I had to double up on math because of learning gaps from an inferior curriculum and I worked hard to do two years of math in one year. I am also really proud of finishing my English Composition classes. This year, I earned a Freed-Hardeman University (FHU) Merit Scholarship.
FAVORITE MEMORY: Field trips to the zoo and Civil War Days at Columbus-Belmont State Park where I received my first blacksmithing lesson are some of my favorite memories.
TIPS FOR STUDENTS: Don’t procrastinate!
TIPS FOR PARENTS: Use engaging reading material.
FUTURE: Carson will attend FHU in the fall to pursue a degree in Interactive Digital Design (Developer Emphasis) with a minor in Artificial Intelligence and a possible emphasis in Game Development.
Carson’s West Tennessee Favorites
Favorite thing to do: I like hiking at Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park, Chickasaw State Park, and Natchez Trace State Park.
Congratulations to Carson, who is a West Tennessee Homeschool Graduation Class of 2026 senior!
