2025/2026 FAFSA Application Now Open
The 2025/2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is now open almost two weeks before its expected launch date of Sunday, December 1, 2024. Students needing to meet the Tennessee Promise requirement and using FAFSA funding for the 2025/2026 school year are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, so students can learn of financial assistance awards timely before school begins fall 2025.
Last year, operational difficulties associated with a congressionally mandated overhaul delayed the FAFSA by several months, leading up to a challenging soft launch and rollout period that was hampered by glitches, technical issues, errors, and delays over the last year. Recognizing the turmoil that resulted from last year’s bungled FAFSA release, NASFAA last month joined others in the higher education community to urge the Department to focus on launching a FAFSA system for the 2025-26 year that had been tested and found to be functional from end to end.
To complete the FAFSA, a student will need some items to begin, which should be obtained before depleting the FAFSA.
