Young Entrepreneur Lucie Watkins Making Strides in the Cosmetology Industry

At just 20 years old, Lucie Watkins is an entrepreneur on the move who is making strides in the cosmetology industry. She graduated from esthetician school in 2023 and cosmetology school in 2025. Lucie now combines those skills and services and offers them to men, women, and children.
“I offer haircuts, hair colors, highlights, perms, skincare services, waxing, lashes, and lash tints and brow tints,” said Lucie, who works out of Cuttin’ Up in Middleton, Tennessee.
Lucie’s interest in cosmetology began while she was in high school. She was home schooled and graduated from Gateway Christian Schools in 2022. Those years gave her an opportunity to learn more about herself as well grew her love of cosmetology.
“Being homeschooled taught me to be my authentic self, 100 percent of the time. It gave me the freedom to think differently and the confidence to pursue ideas—even when they weren’t popular,” said Lucie.

After high school, Lucie continued her education at The Ivy Institute of Esthetics in Memphis. Upon graduation, she immediately found employment as an esthetician at a local hair salon in her home area. While Lucie was able to grow her client based as an esthetician, she also felt herself drawn to the skills and work she saw performed by beauticians.
“I worked in a local hair salon and after seeing all that they [beauticians] do, I just really felt like I needed to do it too. It was heavy on my heart for about one year before I decided to go back to school,” said Lucie, who continued working while enrolled at D.A.Y. Cosmetology.
Continuing to work while going to school enabled Lucie to earn money and maintain her skills as an ethician. Although it was a challenging experience, Lucie was committed to her goal of finishing school and adding to her business services.
“My biggest challenge was keeping up with the demands of both school and work,” said Lucie, who also proudly shared the successes. “My biggest success have been sticking with it and graduating from two beauty schools within three years. My goal is to build relationships with the people of my community. I love making people feel beautiful and more importantly, feel seen. Everyone is special and loved and I feel that God is working through me to reach His people—even if the approach is less conventional than others.”
Lucie shared God, her family, and her clients have been her greatest motivators.

“I have the most wonderful and loyal clientele, and my family has always been my biggest supporters. Without them I would not be where I am today. But without God, I wouldn’t be anything and He is who keeps me going in every aspect of life,” said Lucie, who hopes she inspires other young entrepreneurs. “Don’t give up. As long as you keep going, even if you don’t feel like it, God has a plan and will keep giving you a reason to continue.”
Lucie, already looking into the future, hopes to eventually have a full book and as many people as she can in her chair. She has a current services promotion, which could possibly make that happen. Lucie is running a $10 haircut special for the month of August 2025 to kick off the start of her new hair business.
“I love what I do, and I want to work as much as possible,” said Lucie.
