Presenting 2026 Homeschool Graduate Aaliyah Laster

Aaliyah Laster is an Honor School student and has been homeschooled since she was in the second grade. She is the daughter of William and Alicia Laster and the oldest of three children. Through homeschooling, Aailyah gained a sense of independence and confidence being able to make decisions for herself.
She shared what she enjoyed about homeschool, the experiences and memories, some tips, her future plans, and favorite places to visit in West Tennessee.
CHALLENGES: Although it was not always easy to stay motivated, I reminded myself what I wanted to achieve and that helped me to keep going.
BENEFITS: I was able to be independent in my homeschool experience. I liked that I could learn at my pace and make my own schedule. Homeschooling taught me life skills like being responsible and motivated. These are skills that will help me in the future.
I was also able to do things outside of school to meet people and have experiences.
I am proud that I finished my education through homeschooling. It was not always easy, but I did it! I worked hard and I am proud of what I accomplished.
FAVORITE MEMORY: A: One of my memories is being able to balance schoolwork and other things I wanted to do. It was great to be able to make my choices.
TIPS FOR STUDENTS: You should stay focused and keep your goals in mind. It is not always easy, but it is worth it.
TIPS FOR PARENTS: Give your child space to be independent but still be there to support them.
FUTURE: Aaliyah currently works in home health and has gained valuable experience for her future career. She plans to attend the Tennessee College of Applied Technology to pursue an LPN license. She wants to become a labor and delivery nurse and travel and provide care for those in need.
Aaliyah’s West Tennessee Favorites
Favorite place: One of my favorite places to eat is at Central BBQ. It has Memphis-style food.
Favorite place to go: I like going to Chick-fil-A. It is a lot of fun, with music, and energy.
Favorite thing to do: I like going to the Jackson Park in North Memphis to play with my siblings. We have a lot of fun together.
Congratulations to Aaliyah, who is a West Tennessee Homeschool Class of 2026 graduate!
