Summer Bridge Provides Path to College Readiness

Summer Bridge is a free, three-week program created to assist graduating high school seniors with being college-ready when entering their freshman year. The program is designed for all college-bound students but specifically geared towards those with ACT scores below 19 in math or reading, and below 18 in English. Summer Bridge is offered on 11 campuses across Tennessee, making the opportunity conveniently accessible to students throughout the state.

Each day during the program, students will receive instruction from college professors in math, reading, and English. Incoming college students usually must achieve a minimum ACT score or be required to take remedial courses to get them where they need to be in their education.

On the first and last day of the program, students will take the ACCUPLACER placement exam, which may allow them to start college in level courses and not require remedial instruction.

Summer Bridge is open to any student entering their freshman year of college regardless of their ACT scores, even those who have not yet taken the ACT. Some colleges and universities are still test-optional where an ACT score is not required for admission.

Space is limited. The deadline to register is Friday, May 15, 2026.
