PBS Young Writers and Illustrators Contest for Elementary School Children Accepting Submissions

The West Tennessee Public Broadcasting Service (West TN PBS) is holding its Young Writers and Illustrators Contest for children in kindergarten through the fifth grade. The contest, based on the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, invites children, regardless of their skill to submit their best story and illustrations in the contest.

Stories may be fact or fiction, and prose or poetry following the word count guidelines of:

K-1st: minimum of 50 and a maximum of 200 words
2nd-3rd: minimum of 100 and a maximum of 350 words
4th-5th: minimum of 100 and a maximum of 500 words

Presentation must be printed, written legibly, or typed. Children who cannot write may dictate their stories. All stories must have at least five (5) original, clear, and colorful illustrations. They may be art creations or photographs taken by the author.

The contest is open to children who live in Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Gibson, Hardin, Hardeman, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Madison, McNairy, Obion, or Weakley Counties in Tennessee.

There will be a first and second place winner per grade level with prizes that include gift cards and Discovery Park of America memberships. Submissions are due by Monday, March 25, 2024. Read the complete contest rules.
