Presenting 2026 Homeschool Graduate Jamia Croswait

Jamia Croswait is an Honor School student and has been homeschooled for three years. Homeschooling was a special time in her life as it gave her more time to spend with her siblings. She also enjoyed the random learning opportunities that arose at any moment enabling her to grow through real life experiences. Jamia also learned the value of being a team player. She shared what he enjoyed about homeschool, the experiences and memories, some tips, his future plans, and favorite places to visit in West Tennessee.

CHALLENGES: At first, it felt boring and a lot like school was during the Covid lockdown, but then we made school more about life experiences and hands on learning, Before I knew it, I was learning 24/7 and it was rewarding!

BENEFITS: I think the extra time to sleep, be a kid, and bond with family is precious and we don’t get enough of it before we’re 18 and living our own life. I really enjoyed having more time to bond with my sisters while growing up. I think about homeschooling and want to get back some of those precious minutes!

I not only learned about the four main topics, science, math, social studies, and English, but I got to really deep dive into video editing, photography, color guard, and volunteering in the community. It gave me much more meaning about learning every day.

I was able to volunteer at Jesus Cares Thrift Store, building meaningful connections, especially with elders, and stayed active in my youth group at First Baptist Church of Adamsville.

I also was in color guard/ marching band with Adamsville High School. As a team player, I helped bring my color guard team to the state championship this year making my last year even more awesome!

Finishing my senior year was a huge accomplishment for me personally because it takes a lot of self-will to not give up! It was well worth every second to be free to learn on my own terms and not like a robot.

FAVORITE MEMORY: My favorite memory is randomly going on outings to local museums, art festivals or nature outings and learning about the world around me and not in a book.

TIPS FOR STUDENTS: Give it time. Homeschool doesn’t go smoothly right away. It takes some tuning to make it fit you, not the other way around.

TIPS FOR PARENTS: Again, give it time. Don’t rush into it and don’t compare your teaching style to anyone else. We are all different, so learning should be too.

FUTURE: She will take a gap year and spend the time working with her mother at Monogram while thoughtfully planning her future.

Jamia’s West Tennessee Favorites

Favorite place to eat: For me, it is The Outpost at Pickwick Dam in Savannah.

Favorite place to go: For me, it would be visiting Gatlinburg.

Favorite thing to do: For me, it would be to take a hike at any of the national state parks. My favorite park is Fall Creek Falls State Park.

Congratulations to Jamia, who is a West Tennessee Homeschool Graduation Class of 2026 senior!
