Area 4-H Teams Take Top Awards in Region Meat Judging Contest

Hardeman County students participated in the Western Region 4-H Meats Judging Contest in Lexington, Tennessee on Thursday, February 13, 2025, and returned home winners after taking top awards. The teams included area home school students, David Gibson, Hannah Gibson, Bethany Goodrum, Jerrod Goodrum, Rachel Goodrum, Bella Watkins, and Lily Young, and a public school student, Brianna Foster.
The contestants were given the task of identifying 30 retail cuts, placing a class of T-bone steaks and smoked ham slices, as well as answering five questions on each class.
The Senior High Team of Brianna Foster (1st Place), Hannah Gibson (2nd Place), and Rachel Goodrum (3rd Place), swept the top three spots as high scoring individuals and were named the Western Region Champion earning the right to advance to the state competition in Knoxville in June.

The Hardeman County Junior High Team of David Gibson (1st Place), Jerrod Goodrum (2nd Place), Bethany Goodrum (3rd Place), and Bella Watkins (4th Place), swept the top four spots as high scoring individuals and were named the Western Region Champion. Lily Young competed as an individual, placing 7th in the division.
