JULY EVENTS

July – Harvest/Shop the Community Garden at New Life Herbs Sunday through Thursday, Call (901) 235-7079 for more information.

July 18 – Soaking up Saturday is being held at New Lie Herbs { 17745 Highway 64, Somerville, 38068 } from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be a Saturday of water fun, basketball, food, free snow cones and hot dogs, vendors, dental care, fire truck, and more. The event itself is also free.

July 20-21 4-H Development UT Extension presents Plant Camp for fourth through twelfth grade students at the UT Martin Somerville Center { 302 Midland Street, Somerville, 38068 } from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Call (901} 465-5233

July 29-31 4-H Development UT Extension presents Kids in the Kitchen for fourth through sixth grade students at the Somerville Methodist Church Christian Activity Center { 205 South East Street, Somerville, 38068 } from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

FREE SUMMER MEALS PROGRAMS

Southwest Human Resource Agency delivers free summer meals in Hardeman County: Monday – Hardeman County AgriBusiness Center { 210 Vildo Road, Bolivar, 38008 } from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; John Wilder Community Center { 122 Tippah Street, Grand Junction, 38039 } from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., and Middleton Community Center { 400 South main Street, Middleton, 38052 } from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.; and Friday – Whiteville Elementary School { 2510 US-64, Whiteville, 38075 } from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Somerville Church of Christ { 15925 US 64, Somerville, 38068 } from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Visit the website to learn more and get on the schedule.

The Memphis & Shelby County Lead Safe Collaborative Community Outreach is distributing free summer meals (seven days of lunches) on Mondays – Family Dollar/Dollar Tree #1 { 17575 US Highway 64, Somerville, 38068 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Family Dollar/Dollar Tree #2 { 2068 US Highway 64, Whiteville, 38075 from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., and Big Lake Grill ( 433 East Market Street, Bolivar, 38008 } from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is for children up to 18 years old. FAIR THEATER

July 24-26/30-8/1 – Star Inc. presents Guys and Dolls at the Fair Theater { 114 East Market Street, Somerville, 38068 } on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15.

SCHOOL

Now-November 1 – The Tennessee Promise application for the Class of 2027 is now open.

July 1-3 – Fayette County Public Schools online registration is open for returning students. Register now. Also August 1-4.

June 30 – Attendance forms are due from Independent Homeschoolers for the 2025/2026 school year.

July 1-August 3 – Notice of Intent to Home School forms are due from Independent Homeschoolers. Last day to submit the form is Monday, August 3, 2026.

July 9 – Fayette County Public Schools Coordinated School Heath is hosting the Annual Back to School Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Buckley-Carpenter Elementary School { 12580 South Main Street, Somerville, 38068 }. There will be free backpacks, school supplies. Also available will be community resources, food to purchase, game truck, and more.

July 9 – Fayette County Public Schools board meeting will be held at the Board of Education office { 104255 Highway 76, Somerville, 38068 } at 7 p.m. Catch up by watching the June 2026 meeting.

July 31 – Fayette County Public Schools { 104255 Highway 76, Somerville, 38068 } in-person registration opens for new students from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

August 1 – Class of 2026 using the Tennessee Promise scholarship must submit a minimum of 16 community service hours to remain Tennessee Promise eligible. Class of 2027 students may complete community service hours now to meet the 2027 requirement.

August 1-3 – Fayette County Public Schools online registration is open for returning students. Register now.

July 12 – Daily Life Nutrition { 7035 US-64, Oakland, 38060 } is holding a Backpack & School Supply Giveaway from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

SPORTS

Now-July 17 FCA Sports Fayette County has open soccer registration for children and teens at Christ Presbyterian Church { 500 Teague Store Road, Somerville, 38068 }.

July 13-16 Oakland First Baptist Church { 8695 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, 38068 } is holding the 2026 Sports Camp for kindergarten through fifth grade from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

July 14 & 16 – Fayette Christian School is holding an Adaptive Sports Camp in basketball and soccer for special needs athletes who are 12 and under. Soccer camp will be held on June 14 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and basketball camp will be held on June 16 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Now-August 9 – Tennessee Soccer Academy is holding open registration for its fall soccer league at the Oakland Sports Complex { 495 Mewburn Farm Road, Oakland, 38060 } . Season begins September 12 for 4U through 15U players..

Now-July 31 – Hatchie River Area Youth Soccer (HRAYS) fall 2026 season registration is open. Registration is open to all players (potty trained through high school) from all areas.

July 31 – Hatchie River Area Youth Soccer Fun Day will be held at the Middleton Soccer fields at 6:30 p.m. This is a free event.

VOLUNTEER/COMMUNITY SERVICE
