Get Help at UT Martin FAFSA Night

If you have to submit the FAFSA for the upcoming school year, you may just need all the help you can get as the recent launch has been somewhat of a headache for many returning and new families who have already started the daunting task of completing the form. UT Martin is holding a FAFSA Night at its Ripley Center on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to answer questions and help students and parents as they make efforts to complete the FAFSA for college admissions and scholarship applications.

The new form has fewer questions to answer, but a lot of changes, one that requires everyone contributing information on the FAFSA requiring FSA IDs. FAFSA Night is free and open to anyone to attend who needs help, and no registration is required. Before attending the FAFSA Night, it is recommended all that will need to complete the form to have their IDs ready, so they can begin working through the form when they arrive.

FSA ID Required: To complete your FAFSA, you will need an FSA ID for each contributor. The FSAID is essential for providing information, approval, and consent.

Time Matters: We recommend waiting 10 -14 days after creating your FSA ID before accessing the FAFSA to allow for processing time.

Contributors Explained:

MARRIED PARENTS

  • If they filed 2022 taxes jointly, only one parent needs an FSA ID.
  • If they filed 2022 taxes separately, both parents need an FSA ID.

UNMARRIED OR REMARRIED PARENTS

  • The parent (and stepparent if remarried) who provided more financial support in 2022 is the
    contributor.
  • If married and filed 2022 taxes jointly, only one parent needs an FSA ID.
  • If married and filed 2022 taxes separately, both parents need an FSA ID.

INDEPENDENT STUDENTS

  • If married and filed 2022 taxes separately, both student and spouse need an FSA ID.
