MHEA 18U Basketball Eyes Six-Peat at National Championships

The MHEA U18 boys basketball team took the NCHBC championship title in 2025 for its fifth time in a row. Can they do it again for the sixth time in 2026?

The 34th Annual National Homeschool Basketball Championships is set for this week in Springfield, Missouri and the Memphis Home Education Association (MHEA) Eagles 18U basketball team is ready to make 2026 a six-peat as the champions. More than 400 teams from across the country are participating in the annual event, which is the culmination of season play for girls and boys teams and the highlight every year in home school basketball.

The MHEA Eagles are the five-time defending, undisputed national home school champions! Head coach Joey Reeves and assistant coaches Isaac Guess and Daniel Jenkins will lead the boys team of players, David Abram, Sean Adubato, MJ Butler, Isaiah Case, Ian Charping, Parker Cross, Braxton Dawkins, Aiden Fleming, Ashton Hill, Nic Mainetti, James Nguyen, and Finley Schwegel. MHEA has players in other divisions participating in the championship, which includes boys 16U, 12U, and 10U, and girls 18U, 16U, 14U, 12U, and 10U.

Tennessee will also be represented by the Tennessee HEAT/TN HEAT out of Wilson County, which has teams competing in boys 14U and 12U and girls 18U, 14U, and 12U divisions.

In 2025, the MHEA played the Tennessee HEAT in the final at the championship and earned the national title winning 45-39. Caleb Thomas, a 2025 HomeLife Academy graduate, played on that winning team and went on to sign with Freed-Hardeman University to play basketball as a Lion. He shared his thoughts on home school sports also noting, “as long as you have skill and a hard work ethic, the coaches will find you.”
