Presenting 2025 Homeschool Graduate Kira Sadowsky

Kira Sadowsky is a HomeLife Academy student and has been homeschooled her entire life. She benefited from being able to learn at her own pace and the extracurricular opportunities available in the home school community.
She shared what it was like to homeschool, which included a fun and favorite memory, and offered advice for other home school students and their parents.
BENEFITS: I enjoyed having a flexible schedule and the opportunity to learn at my own pace. It has given me the time and opportunities to learn more about my interests and take up new hobbies.
CHALLENGES: I had trouble reading when I was little, so my mom had me sit in the kitchen or in the living room and read library books or children’s magazines aloud. Eventually, the practice helped me to become a strong reader.
FAVORITE MEMORY: A tsunami science experiment where we built a LEGO town before putting it on a small mound of dirt in a basin. The rest of the basin was filled with water and when we pulled the water back with a plate, a giant wave wrecked the town. To this day, we still haven’t found the LEGO mayor.
TIPS FOR STUDENTS: Since most home school curricula lets you work at your own pace, if you get all your homework done earlier in the week, you can have the rest of the week to play games.
TIPS FOR PARENTS: The library, Khan Academy, and 4-H are all great resources. Always check Facebook! Pages like the Memphis Homeschool Buzz, Homeschool Roster, and 4-H show you many amazing opportunities from classes and clubs to field trips and curriculum sales. I enjoyed all the clubs and extracurriculars I was able to be a part of. The home school community is always willing to help out new homeschoolers. If there is no club or group available for your kids, you can always start one!
FUTURE: I hope to earn my masters in genetic engineering and a minor in culinary arts.
Kira’s West Tennessee Favorites
Favorite place to eat: My favorite place to eat is at Red Koi.
Favorite place to go: My favorite places to go are Shelby Forest, Benjamin Hooks Library, and Cloud 901 Teen Learning Lab.
Favorite thing to do: My favorite thing to do is visit a local library or coffee shop to hang out with friends, or just crochet and read.
Congratulations to Kira, who is participating in the Homeschool Roster Homeschool Graduation 2025!
