Classic Learning Test Increases Fee for Remotely Proctored Exam

The Classic Learning Test (CLT) announced it will have a price increase for its remotely proctored exam, which will take effect Monday, June 1, 2026. The exam price, which is currently $69, will jump to a registration fee of $112.

The alternative standardized test option to the ACt and Sat has been available since 2015. The CLT is one many homeschool families have chosen to use for general standardized testing throughout the school year as well as annually for gauging student performance. Having the flexibility and convenience of at home testing has been a well-received option for many, which has led to a larger number of families using the CLT. Remote proctoring is currently offered for its CLT and CLT10.

Over the years, the list of partnering schools accepting the CLT has continued to grow. The CLT is now even accepted by U.S. Service Academies for the 2027 Admissions Cycle. With that growth comes the continued need to ensure the integrity of the exam, especially from cheating. The implementation of a more secure platform for students taking the exam is needed to be in place to ensure the test scores they receive are recognized and accepted by colleges and universities.

CLT shared on its Facebook page, “CLT continues to experience exciting and rapid growth. Along with it comes our increased responsibility to deliver a truly superior product that is both exceptionally designed and technologically secure . . . As more colleges accept CLT scores, ensuring the integrity of remote testing has become increasingly important. CLT is currently the only major college entrance exam offering a remotely proctored option from home, and maintaining that standard requires significant investment in identity verification, proctoring, exam review, and test security.”

Currently, students who are caught cheating receive void scores. In more serious situations, especially in extreme cases, students are permanently banned from future CLT testing. Advanced technology to help ensure the integrity of the remotely proctored exam is expensive and that has led to the price increase.

The price will remain the same for students taking the CLT3-8, CLT10, and CLT in school.

Students are able to register for the remotely proctored exam and lock in the $69 price for the Thursday, June 11, 2026, test as well as future exams when they register by Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
