Don’t Miss the Homeschool 2026/2027 Registration Deadline!

It is time to register for the 2026/2027 school year and you want to be sure you do not miss the deadline per the State of Tennessee. Whether you are registering as an independent home school, with an umbrella school, or with an accredited online private school school, the deadline is determined by the school district/county in which you live.
The first day of school in your district for public school students is the date by which you will need to register your child for homeschool. That will keep your child compliant and not open the door for truancy. If you are not certain of that date, you may contact your local school board for that information or find it online on the county board of education website. Several county schools across the state return Monday, August 3, 2026.
Just because you have to register your child by the first day of school in your district, that does not mean you must also start school. You may start school at any time. Just be sure you registering using one of the three options available for homeschool.
Students are required to complete 180 days of school each year. If you are registered as an independent home school, the first day of the school year is July 1 and the last day of the school year is June 30, every year. If you are registered with an umbrella school or accredited online (private) school, check with the school to learn its official first day and last day of school as well as its deadline for registering for the 2026/2027 school year.
