Presenting 2025 Homeschool Graduate Cameron Brown
Cameron Brown is a HomeLife Academy student and has been homeschooled for nine years. Home school has been a great option for Cameron, a Grizzlies fan, in managing his ADHD and exploring his passions.
He shared what it was like to homeschool, some of the places he enjoyed exploring, and offered advice for other home school students and their parents.
BENEFITS: I loved being able to travel while I learned. Some of my favorite places in the Memphis area to visit are the monorail ride to see Mud Island Park and around the art district looking at the murals painted by local artists. Another location I enjoyed going to was Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. Although it is outside of the Memphis area, it is a great learning experience for the entire family, and you may even find a real diamond. Planet Hollywood in Orlando, Florida is another place I enjoyed visiting.
Having the ability to travel gave me more time to research my passions and follow the path needed to be successful. New things are fun for everyone, including learning.
CHALLENGES: Having ADHD has been a challenge, but I have been able to learn to better control my thinking, and pace myself to accomplish my goals.
FAVORITE MEMORY: One of my favorite memories is going to the Dixon Gallery & Gardens to explore inside art and outside seasonal landscapes.
TIPS FOR STUDENTS: The world is your classroom. Anything you want, you can get. You just have to work for it. Anything is possible! Also, a reminder that just because it’s different, doesn’t mean it’s bad.
TIPS FOR PARENTS: Be patient and let your student(s) be who they are, with no strings attached. Students are alike, but they are all unique.
FUTURE: I would like to continue to volunteer and feed the homeless, travel the world, and one day own a business and a successful brand.
Cameron’s West Tennessee Favorites
Favorite place to eat: My favorite place to eat is at the American Deli and ordering a 10-piece Honey Hot Wing combo with French fries, and a Sprite and Powerade mixed drink.
Favorite place to go: My favorite place to go is Downtown Memphis on the Mississippi River to skip rocks while enjoying the view.
Favorite thing to do: My favorite thing to do is going to see different events and concerts at the FedExForum in the skybox; especially to watch the Memphis Grizzlies play. Go Grizzlies!
