Presenting 2025 Homeschool Graduate Lexy Staggs
Lexy Staggs is a HomeLife Academy student and has been homeschooled for three years. She enjoys the outdoors and encourages parents to take learning outside of the four walls like taking field trips. Lexy shared her experiences as a home school student and great advice for students and parents.
BENEFITS: Working at my own pace and having the time to stay organized and on track was nice. I also had more time for personal growth and to try new things. I am glad my family said “yes to home school!” I know there are things you will “miss out” on, but overall it is so much better for some mentally.
CHALLENGES: Some of the lessons were very hard, so my mom would find videos, tutors, etc. to help me along the way. Something I realize is, the first year will be challenging for both the student and parent, but it does get easier every year! Trying a new curriculum could make a difference. Also, going on field trips helps. You got this!
FAVORITE MEMORY: My sister and I both had Spanish class together and one of our assignments was to write a song in Spanish and sing it to your family. That was fun!
TIPS FOR STUDENTS: Always try different learning methods because what everyone else does may not be best for you. Don’t be afraid to try different things.
TIPS FOR PARENTS: Some days, the house may be full of distractions. Try something different like taking school outside to read etc., because it may be easier for your child to focus outdoors at times. Also, schedule a field trip at least twice a year!
FUTURE: I am currently taking dual enrollment classes at Jackson State Community College. I will continue there in hopes of being accepted into its nursing program! I would love to become a pediatric nurse.
Lexy’s West Tennessee Favorites
Favorite place to eat: My favorite place to eat is anywhere with tacos and anything sweet that’s vanilla or berry flavored, especially if it has sprinkles.
Favorite place to go: My favorite place to go is exploring the outdoors and I love going on vacation.
Favorite thing to do: My favorite thing to do is going swimming, and fishing with my daddy.
