What’s Happening in West Tennessee?

FIELD TRIPS
We had an early week field trip scheduled to Trader Joe’s (open to members and non-members), but with the inclement weather, it looks like it will be rescheduled. If you registered for the field trip, be sure to check your e-mail for an update. A few new field trips will be added this week. Some will have quick registration and payment deadlines. Jackson Symphony League Holds Color of Music Art Contest 2023/2024

Each year, kindergarten through eighth grade students across West Tennessee share their artistic talent and creativity producing beautiful artwork for the Jackson Symphony League’s Color of Music art contest. The deadline for art submissions has been extended. { read to learn how your child can participate }

Discovery Park of America Offering Free Admission
The Discovery Park of America is partnering with Magnolia Place Assisted Living and offering free admission for January 2024 to children 17 years of age and younger as the museum and heritage park kicks off the celebration of its eleventh birthday.

MONDAY, January 15, 2024

Virtual Martin Luther King Day Jr. celebrations are being held at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis and The King Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

HomeLife Academy is offering a pre-registration discount for its 2024/2025 school year to current and new homeschool families. Monday, Janaury 15, 2024, is the last day to take advantage of the discount.

WEDNESDAY, January 17, 2024
The Mid-South Ice House is offering a Homeschool Learn to Skate Program every Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. All ages from three to adult are welcome to attend. After the class, students are invited to stay free for the weekly Homeschool Skate from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Homeschool STEAM at the Hardin County Library (1365 Pickwick Street, Savannah, 38372) will be held at 9:30 a.m. All ages are invited to Join for books, art, science, and socializing.

Lake County homeschool students have their Tennessee Promise Team Meeting at Lake County High School, 11:30 a.m.

THURSDAY, January 18, 2024
Gibson County homeschool students have their Tennessee Promise Team Meeting at Gibson County High School, 10 a.m.

FRIDAY, January 19 2024
The WTHEA Warriors basketball will play against Augustine School on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at Popular Heights Baptist Church, 1980 Hollywood Drive, Jackson, Tennessee, 38305

SATURDAY, January 20, 2024
CPR and AED (training and certification), and First Aid and Narcan (training)

First Aid/CPR/AED and Narcan training will be offered in Jackson. The class will be taught by a Jackson Fire Department fireman who is a certified emergency medical responder. The class follows American Heart Association instruction. Upon the successful completion of the class, students will receive two year CPR and AED certifications.

ACT . Prep is offering a Free Mock ACT webinar for middle school and high school students. Students will get to keep their tests for review, have their scores immediately when they are done, and get a question-by-question analysis of their test. All students will also be given a free video series with tips and tricks the ACT doesn’t want students to know about this test.
